What electrical employers ask us before taking on an apprentice

What’s it actually going to cost you?

Wages aren’t fixed. As long as you pay above the minimum training wage, you set the rate and apply pay rises whenever suits your business.

Our wage forecast tool shows what you should be paying right across the whole apprenticeship, year by year, so there’s no guesswork and no awkward conversations later when it’s time for a review.

What if you take one on and the work dries up?

This is what stops most owners from committing. If workload drops off, you can hand the apprentice back to us and we’ll find them a new placement.

Need more people when a job picks up instead? Just as easy. You’re not locked into a headcount that doesn’t match your workload, whichever direction things move.

Does the support stop once they’ve settled in?

No. We stay involved for the whole apprenticeship, not just the first few months while everything is new. Plenty of issues come up later, once the apprentice is part of the daily workload. That’s when ongoing support matters most.

If an apprentice has a tough question, we help answer it. We also advocate for them with you as the host business, so problems get sorted early rather than left to fester. On top of that, we supply a basic toolkit and PPE, so they turn up ready to work from day one.

What are the different ways you can actually work with ATT?

We offer four models. Which one you pick depends on how much of the employment side you want to handle yourself.

Group apprenticeship. We employ the apprentice. You train them on the job. We handle the wages, HR, leave and admin that come with it.

Managed apprenticeship. You employ the apprentice directly and keep full control. We provide training coordination and regular pastoral check-ins to keep them on track, for a fixed fee.

Casual trade assistance. Need extra hands for a specific job or a busy patch?
We supply vetted, trade-ready workers on short or long-term placements, and you can scale up or down as work changes.

Recruitment as a service. If you’d rather employ someone yourself but don’t have time to find them, we source and screen candidates and hand you the shortlist. You take it from there.

You’re not locked into one model long-term. You can move between them as your needs change.

What’s in it for your business, long-term?

We take the time to match the right apprentice to your business. Before we place anyone, we get to know how you operate, what the work actually involves day to day, and the kind of person who will fit your team. Then we look for someone who suits that, not simply the next person available. That comes from more than 35 years backing SMEs across New Zealand.
