manufacturing electrical conduit in New Zealand

Marley New Zealand is proud to have shared the best part of four decades working with Powerbase as their trusted partner and advocate for the electrical industry.

Having carved its niche through 36 years of commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, Marley’s journey has mirrored Powerbase’s success – based on values of manufacturing excellence and the ability to adapt and innovate in a constantly evolving marketplace.

On behalf of the entire electrical industry, Marley extends heartfelt congratulations to Powerbase on reaching this incredible 40-year milestone. Your unwavering dedication and support have been instrumental in advancing our sector, and we are deeply grateful for the invaluable insights you’ve shared. Here’s to another four decades for both of us!

Marley’s journey began in 1988, when the company started manufacturing electrical conduit in New Zealand – marking the start of the introduction of state-of-the-art PVC conduit systems for electrical wiring in residential and commercial settings.

From the beginning, quality was a key focus, and by 1994, Marley had achieved ISO9001 Quality Management Accreditation. Becoming part of Aliaxis, a global manufacturer of plastics in 1999 further enhanced Marley’s resources and global reach, providing access to world-leading R&D and best practices.

The Flexible Conduit range launch in 2015 cemented Marley’s reputation as an innovator in the conduit category. This product was matched with an equally impressive launch campaign, “The Flex Force,” which won the Supreme Award at the TVNZ Marketing Awards the following year.

In 2018, Marley introduced another award-winning product, ARMA Rigid Conduit – the first system compliant with AS/NZS 61386, designed to meet specific requirements for durability, craftmanship and performance. This successful product launch also gained recognition, this time winning the B2B category in the TVNZ Marketing Awards.

In response to feedback from electricians and contractors, ARMA inspection elbows and tees were also redesigned, bringing a multitude of features enabling better performance and easier installation. Features included a smoother internal surface to eliminate snags, chamfers, and lips, making cable hauling more efficient.

Sustainability is a key focus and is evident throughout Marley’s product designs and manufacturing processes. Key initiatives include a Closed-Loop Recycling Program, where scrap materials from manufacturing are reprocessed, significantly reducing waste.

In 2013, Marley received Best Environmental Practice (BEP) certification for manufacturing uPVC products that meet the strict criteria, enabling designers and installers to achieve GreenStar credits in commercial buildings.

Marley didn’t stop there – in 2022, the company published its Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) to transparently communicate the environmental impact of its products, demonstrating Marley’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Also in 2022, Marley took a technical lead with CALIBRE, a fully featured and unified PVC and PE cable duct range. Like ARMA, it was first to market with an AS/NZS 61386 compliant system, this time for the Electrical Utilities sector.

This new and simplified product range delivers a cohesive approach to design, manufacture and installation for Trench and Trenchless cable duct, benefiting asset owners, designers and installers.

CALIBRE is yet another example of Marley ensuring the industry continues to progress whether it’s with the latest innovation or compliance developments in the electrical space.

Marley’s history in the electrical conduit category is marked by strategic innovations, a strong commitment to sustainability, and a deep-rooted dedication to New Zealand’s economic well-being.

As the company continues to evolve, it remains ambitious about setting a standard of what local businesses can achieve; global standards of excellence while staying true to their origins.

Marley thanks the electrical sector for its support over the past 36 years and looks forward to continuing its legacy of innovation and excellence for many more years to come.
