Electric vehicles are on the rise in New Zealand, with new regulations coming into force around the world mandating the use of electric or hybrid technology.
As new vehicles are imported, the ratio of electric to petrol cars in the market is changing. New incentives, like the government rebate for electric vehicles is pushing this change along at ever increasing speeds. Shopping malls, businesses and other public spaces are dedicating space to electric vehicle chargers, offering a service to their customers that has never needed to be addressed before. Add to that the rising cost of petrol and diesel, consumer interest and demand for electric vehicles is only going to grow exponentially. To put it bluntly, the future is electric.
Vynco’s EV charger, the VMEV, is engineered and manufactured in Christchurch, New Zealand and is a slimline flush electric vehicle charger. Designed to sit within a wall cavity, the VMEV stands only 54mm from the wall, saving space on garage walls, particularly in narrow new builds. Its fascia matches the rest of Vynco’s innovative VM series combined meterboards, databoards, and distribution boards, allowing contractors to offer a complete, uniform aesthetic to their customers, resulting in an overall coordinated and elegant look once installed.
Vynco’s head designer kept contractors at the forefront when designing the VMEV, packing this model with features to make installation simple. From easy-to-use fold out tabs for setting the charger at the right depth for plasterboard to be installed, to an innovative ‘Box Ahead’ offering.
‘Box Ahead’ gives contractors and homeowners choice by allowing the base, EV unit and cover to be bought separately or together. This allows new-builds to come with the base unit pre-installed, preparing the home for an electric vehicle in the future. Another benefit of Box Ahead is that it allows contractors to order a whole unit, but receive the base, EV unit and cover at different stages of the install. This saves them from storing the various components and minimises the risk of damaged or lost units.
The VMEV is a New Zealand made product designed, machined, and assembled in Vynco’s own Christchurch-based factories. Vynco’s recently acquired turret and folding machines gives them the ability to work and manipulate sheet metal in house, removing the need for offshore manufacturing. Once the sheet metal has been folded, the various components move down the road to Vynco’s assembly team, who take over and assemble all the componentry before boxing up the VMEVs for dispatch. Having all their factories and warehouses on one street in Christchurch allows Vynco to drastically reduce their shipping and transport emissions. An additional benefit of manufacturing the VMEV locally, is Vynco’s ability to be flexible and agile with delivery – whether it is bulk delivery or customisation.
